man y’all remember when the avengers movie came out and everyone headcanoned that all the avengers would live together in the tower and had all these cute posts about various fun ways they could interact and then the movies literally never had any of them even be friends
honestly. caw caw motherfucker and such
“headcanoned” no no it’s worse!! they literally showed the blueprints for each individual avenger getting their own floor on the tower, on screen, so we could see it with our eyes, and then scrapped the idea between films lmao we got SCAMMED scammed
-Graduated in the top 4% of his year -was bullied by jocks -Is a history nerd -was so much of a teacher’s pet that he cheated on an exam and was commended for it -Was referred to as “a stack of books with legs”
Jean-Luc Picard:
-Spent all his free time drinking in pubs and playing billiards -broke more hearts than he can remember -started a bar fight that ended up in him being stabbed in the heart -likes to explore dangerous ruins of ancient civilizations for fun -wouldn’t even have become a starship captain if he wasn’t this much of a hothead
And yet people still manage to get it backwards???
I think it’s a problem of First Officer, really.
Jim Kirk seems like a wild man because he’s standing next to calm, logical Spock.*
Meanwhile, Picard seems stately and dignified because he’s standing next to Will “Any alien physiology is bangable if you just put some thought into it” Riker*.
* Of course THEN, we get to the next layer, which is that Spock is the dude who told the Vulcan Science Academy to fuck itself, while Riker plays the trombone.
In one way or another, I’ve been “working” on this novel for at least ten years - I’ve had drafts of two specific scenes written for that long. (The first one’s about halfway through. The second one’s near the end.) It’s technically a sequel, or at least a spin-off, for my short story “Sorceress,” which was actually my very first *romance* sale - with Ellora’s Cave! Now republished with JMS Books! (You don’t need to’ve read it first, I think - this one’s set several years later and everything you need to know gets mentioned - though you’ll eventually spot a couple of familiar faces if you have read it!) As soon as I finished writing that one, I knew what our magician’s story was, at least the outline of it, all about hiding away and guilt and redemption and power and being found by someone kind - that’s been in my head for about ten years, too.
I’m not sure I could’ve written it properly back then - maybe I could’ve, but it wasn’t ready to be written then, and also I’ve grown as a writer (I hope!), with time and fandom and friends and publishers - so when it suddenly woke up and demanded to be written, I tried. And I’m proud of it.
Also, I usually fret over closing lines, but both of these - the main story’s, and the bonus story’s - feel exactly right to me. So I hope you like them too. :-)
(Also, I’ll be taking down the AO3 version a couple of days before release, if you’ve read that one! Just so you know, if you want to save that version. But if you’ve read it and liked it, please think about picking up the official published one! That’d be awesome! <3 )
Hello! I'm writing to you (again) on behalf of my team Stucky and Roles. We really like the way you write. The readers loved this fic so we'd like to ask for your permission to translate a few more fics from this collection. Thank you!
About it would have been nice to have had unicorns
